Succulents: The U.S. Marines of the plant world. Low maintenance, and high survival rate. They seem to thrive in the harsh cold and fog of coastal San Francisco. (Notice the rust-eaten vent on the left side of the photo.) And succulents come in an endless variety, some with bright seasonal blooms.
