Would you climb 13 flights to enjoy the view from Coit Tower?

San Francisco's iconic Coit Tower was built in 1933, and so was its rickety elevator. It's been broken for over a year, because they can't find anybody who can get it working and keep it working. You can pay $10 and climb the 13 flights of spiraling staircase to the top. The silver lining? You'll enjoy rarely seen murals on the walls of the first few floors.
They're doing some major development of the plaza out front of the Tower. Parking used to be scarce, now it's nonexistent. Drop off only. There's a shorter-than-most city bus that winds its way up. And of course, Uber and Lyft.

The small printed sign reads, "STAIRS ONLY"

2nd floor landing includes an office.

The rest of the ascent is finished cement.

Closer to the top, a porthole view of downtown SF.

If you survive the climb, the views are excellent on a clear day.

The path up Telegraph Hill to the Tower is steep, but park-like. That's it. If you plan a visit, start your cardio training now.
