At the 1894 Midwinter's Fair in Golden Gate Park, there was a heart-pounding new experience for the daring: The Firth Wheel. It was located on the north side of the concourse, fresh from its debut at the Chicago World's Fair. Scroll down for a vintage photo of the Firth Wheel -- and because I'm a local history nerd, an actual vintage ticket I have from the attraction. This is the 150th Anniversary of Golden Gate Park, and a modern day version, the SKYSTAR, will grace the exact same spot in the park. The photo below shows it during assembly, still awaiting its passenger compartments.
