I passed this new art today in the music concourse. Months ago a crowd pulled the Francis Scott Key statue from his pedestal, as well as several other nearby statues. Francis Scott Key was 1) a slaveholder 2) the author of the Star Spangled Banner, and 3) lobbied to have his brother appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, where he authored the Dred Scott Decision.

The artwork consists of 350 ancestral sculptures surrounding the monument, signifying the original 350 Africans kidnapped from their homeland in 1619 and brought to what would become America, beginning 250 years of chattel slavery. The installation will be here for two years. More info at http://monumentalreckoning.org
